Start Date

About the Program

Community Programs (CP) are discussions rather than lectures, enabling attendees to engage directly with the speakers and each other. Council events include panel discussions, town-hall meetings, discussion groups, networking events, as well as high-level receptions including our Fellows and Fellows Alumni cohorts and other private gatherings. No matter the size of the program, participants are able to address their specific interests in a meaningful conversation through a moderated Q&A format. Interns assist the CP team in the research and planning stages, as well as day-of logistics for all World Affairs Council public events whether in-person, virtual, or hybrid.

Tasks include:

  • Coordinating event logistics: developing outreach strategies, booking venues (for in-person events), and overseeing details of event production, event registration, and speaker correspondence.
  • Researching and proposing ideas for new programs.
  • Attending in-person or virtual Council events and facilitating event implementation.
  • Drafting event descriptions for use on the website and email announcements.
  • Conducting and summarizing background research on speakers and topics for moderators and for the Fellows and Fellows Alumni program.
  • Preparing promotional materials using Canva for upcoming events.
  • Updating programs and maintaining CP contacts in the Salesforce database.
  • Conducting outreach through phone, email or other communications platforms to promote and publicize events with other local organizations.
  • Producing marketing and communication materials.
  • Posting and updating CP events and other promotional partner events on the World Affairs Council website.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest (volunteer/work experience, coursework, or major declaration) in international relations.
  • Proficient in written and conversational English.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • No education requirement - the World Affairs Council does not require applicants to be current students. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and education levels. There is room to grow into your role.

Application Information

  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • Please apply through our website with a resume and thoughtful cover letter.
  • In-person work is preferred but we can be flexible for a hybrid schedule contingent on needs.
